Immunization catch-up campaign in Enugu state is targeting over 100,000 children who missed out on essential vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This was disclosed by the State immunization officer of Enugu State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ESPHDA)Dr Chime Chinyere in an interview with Journalists in Enugu.
“we have about 100,000 children that we are looking at, but the way we planned is that may not actually cover all of them at the same time. So we are targeting about 65% at the first round, then the second round we finish up.
“To address this gap, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has developed a micro-plan to reach affected communities in five Local Government in Enugu state.
he campaign will not only focus on children who missed out on vaccines but also aim to identify and vaccinate zero-dose children who have never received any vaccinations. Health workers will work closely with community leaders and development partners to ensure the success of the campaign.
“The first phase of the campaign aims to reach 65% of the target population, with a second phase planned for the following month to cover the remaining children.
“With the support of development partners, health officials are confident that the campaign will help restore immunization coverage and protect Nigerian children from vaccine-preventable diseases,”
