The Chairman of WIC’s Board of Directors, of The World Igbo Congress (WIC) has scheduled an emergency meeting for Friday, January 25 to address and to deal with the pressing issues affecting the Southeastern region of Nigeria.
Dr. Festus Okere, directed Vice Chairman Basil Onwukwe to convene the meeting of Igbo leaders in the diaspora at 7:00 p.m. Alaigbo time.
The Main issue of the meeting
The main issue of the meeting includes the prolonged detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Kanu, facing terrorism charges since his extradition from Kenya in June 2021, recently requested the transfer of his case to the Southeast if no judge in Abuja is willing to preside.
Other topics which are to be discussed are the leadership challenges in the Southeast, the growing militarization and insecurity in the region, and strategies for World Igbo Congress to create a unified diaspora solution to address these concerns.
The meeting underscores the diaspora body’s commitment to tackling issues impacting Ndigbo and advocating for the region’s well-being
