Uche Mefor on Queen Elizabeth 1

By Edoziuno Chukwunonso

Uche Mefor, the Head of Information and Communication, De Facto Customary Government of Biafra, while accusing British government of commiting atrocious crime against humanity, incites Biafrans to boldly insist that the new King Charles III must make the British government undo the tragedy of Biafra war to which Queen Elizabeth II was neckdeep into.

“Death is inevitable but nobody should lecture the victims on how they would respond to their oppressors or perpetrators and their atrocities.

The death of Queen Elizabeth II is not something to gloat over nor to celebrate among victims of genocide like the people of Biafra, and all those still living under the yoke of colonialism and genocide midwifed by Britain under the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and her predecessor(s). But does the real instrument of power lies with the monarch( the Queen or the King) in the scheme of things? The answer is no and definitely not in the affirmative. The prime ministers of Britain and the Parliament are in charge of real power of governance.”

“Do I gloat over the passing on of the Queen? Definitely no. The truth is that to so many people, the Queen represents so many things. I personally can’t celebrate her death for death is a natural phenomenon and remains an inevitable, immortal experience that everyone will pass through.”

“However, this is indeed the end of a momentous era! And what lesson could be learnt? Vanity upon Vanity is Vanity (paraphrased from Eccles 1:2). This world is not ours and no mortal is invincible. The passing on of the Queen calls for sober reflection across board both on the side of the victims of (colonialism, of slavery, of genocide), and on the side of the perpetrators of such like Britain.”

“In moments of this reflection, the victims must find courage to strongly remind the new King Charles III to commit to impressing it upon the British government to undo the tragedy that is Biafra. Yes, British government must reverse the mess and the atrocities committed against the people of Biafra. And yes, we know that the monarch has no real instrument of power or governmental authority (powers mainly ceremonial), but we also know that s/he has the moral authority, the persuasive prerogative to advise the government (parliament and the executive under the prime minister) to begin with immediate effect, the declassification of the classified documents containing the details of British government’s involvement in bankrolling and prosecution of the Nigeria’s war over Biafra. These documents, we learnt, have lifespans of 100 years and over. With this sinister state of affair, it is obvious that the implication is that by the time these documents are declassified, both the direct victims(Biafrans), the witnesses and the perpetrators of the genocidal war like Gowon, Obasanjo, Buhari, Babangida and so on would have long died.”

“It is against this background that the new King Charles III must be reminded that he has an ample opportunity to redeem the dented image of the monarchy. Biafrans expect nothing short of the British government’s apology to Biafrans, and a clear demonstration of open and genuine commitment to undo the injustice and the tragedy of Biafra war to which she was neckdeep into. Yes, nothing short of British government’s unfringing support for Biafra independence can do in the light of obvious errors of judgment on the part of British and Nigeria which led to the massacre of over 6 million people.”
