Enugu State Governor Dr Peter Mbah has reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring maximum security of lives and property of the citizens, acknowledging that security and welfare of the people is the primary responsibility of the government.
According to the governor, the importance of security in any society can never be overstated.
I had the pleasure of receiving the PDP National Reconciliation Committee, led by former Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, at the Government House today. Our discussions centred on fostering peace, unity, and true reconciliation within our great party, particularly in the Southeast and across the country. Enugu remains the bastion of the PDP, a state that has proudly carried the party’s banner over the years.
However, as I emphasised during our meeting, we cannot afford to approach future elections with a divided house. The only path to victory is through a united front, built on justice, inclusion, and a genuine effort to bring back those who have left. We recognise that some of our members in the Southeast may have felt aggrieved in the past, but we must remember that our party operates on a foundation of brotherhood and shared values.
Many of those who left still hold the PDP close to their hearts, and this reconciliation effort is an opportunity to welcome them back home. The truth remains that the PDP is the only party with the structure, history, and vision to truly serve the Nigerian people. It is therefore our responsibility to restore hope in Nigerians. The work of the reconciliation committee is critical because it requires patience, wisdom, and tact to achieve lasting peace.
I commend the leadership of our party in Enugu, under Dr Martin Chukwunwike, for their ongoing efforts to strengthen our base. Already, we are witnessing a mass return of our members, a testament to the confidence they have in the party’s future and our administration’s leadership. As we move forward, I urge all PDP members to embrace this reconciliation process in the spirit of unity and collective progress. We must come together, stronger than ever, to build a formidable party ready to reclaim its rightful place in governance for the good of our people.
While urging the people of the state to key into the lofty initiative by donating willingly as the fund targets 20 Billion Naira annually, Dr Chioke noted that the initiative was designed to pool resources, expertise, and efforts to address insecurity and criminality challenges in Enugu.
Dignitaries from all walks of life were present at the event including Chief Engr Arthur Eze who was the Chief launcher with a donation of 500 million Naira to open the floor for other donations.
