
The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, in a bid to ensure the effective enforcement of third-party vehicle insurance in Imo State, which will become effective on February 1, 2025, a crucial meeting with key stakeholders at the Command’s headquarters in Owerri.
The meeting is about raising public awarenes on the importance of securing vehicle insurance, as mandated by Section 68 of the Insurance Act and Section 312 of the 1945 Motor Vehicle (Third-Party Insurance) Act.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Henry Okoye, is set to take effect on February 1, 2025.
 The representatives from the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Imo State Transport Corporation, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, and the Imo State Internal Revenue Service, IRS, were present.
The Commissioner of Police emphasized that vehicles without valid third-party insurance will be impounded until compliance is ensured.
He urged stakeholders to educate their members on the importance of adhering to the law to enhance road safety.
Samuel Udeh,Chairman of the NURTW pledged the Union’s cooperation, assuring that its members would update their insurance documents promptly.
