President Bola Tinubu has reportedly invited Rabiu Kwankwaso, 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, for discussions following his meeting with Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on January 19.
The meeting with Governor Yusuf, attended by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, APC Chairman Yilwatda Nentawe, and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, lasted about an hour and focused primarily on persuading Kwankwaso to join the APC.
Sources say Governor Yusuf requested the president meet Kwankwaso personally after his own attempts failed. No discussions about automatic political tickets for the governor or defecting lawmakers reportedly took place. The administration’s focus remains on bringing Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya Movement into the APC.
