“That is the danger of allowing non-state actors to operate freely'' - Uzodinma

By Edoziuno Chukwunonso

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, who has battled similar situation in his state has challenged political elites on the security of the South-East region.

It is worthy to note that Gov Uzodimma has been accused by members of IPONK-IPOB of inviting security forces including EBUBEAGU – the supposedly regional joint security network for the South East, in fighting against insurgency across Igboland.

The governor made the charge while speaking on Channels TV’s Politics on Tuesday, Sep 13.

Uzodinma noted that Igbo elites must set aside their differences and broker a formidable synergy to secure the region following the foiled assassination attempt on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

Recall that Ubah’s convoy was attacked on Sunday night around Nkwo Enugwu Ukwu Market area of Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State on his way to Nnewi, his country home.

Unknown gunmen had opened fire on the convoy of the Ubah, leaving five members of the convoy dead and two policemen injured.

The governor, who described Ubah as a philanthropist who has helped many people, wondered why people would want to kill him.

According to Uzodinma, the incident is an eye opener for the political elites in the southeast to ensure that the region is not left in the hands of non-state actors.

He said, “That is the danger of allowing non-state actors to operate freely. Ifeanyi Ubah is one of our best, a big philanthropists in the southeast. He has helped so many people. Surprisingly, I don’t know how any sensible human being will want to eliminate a philanthropist like him. It is so painful and a sad story to hear.

“However, it has become necessary for the political elite to unite and secure the environment. One governor or speaker can’t do it, it needs the efforts of every stratum to join forces to protect this society,” he added.
